 · The single-phase induction motor can be made to be self-starting in numerous ways. One often-used method is the Split Phase motors. Another method is the Capacitor Start Induction Run Motors. Capacitor-Start Induction-Run Motors. We know about the activity of a capacitor in a pure A.C. Circuit. When a capacitor is so introduced, the voltage lags the current by some phase angle. In these Capacitor Start Induction Motor. A Capacitor Start Motors are a single phase Induction Motor that employs a capacitor in the auxiliary winding circuit to produce a greater phase difference between the current in the main and the auxiliary windings. The name capacitor starts itself shows that the motor uses a capacitor for the purpose of blogger.comted Reading Time: 2 mins  · Capacitor- start single phase induction motor. Single Phase AC Induction Motors. AC single phase induction motors are classified by their start and run characteristics. An auxiliary starter winding is placed at right angles to the main stator winding in order to create a magnetic field. The current moving through each winding is out of phase by 9. This is called phase differential. After the

The capacitor start single phase induction motor is a type of split-phase induction motor. Capacitors are used to improve the starting and running performance of the single-phase inductions motors. The capacitor start motor is identical to a split-phase motor except that the starting winding has as many turns as the main winding. Why Single Phase Induction Motor is not Self Starting?

The value of the capacitor is so chosen that the current I s in the auxiliary coil leads current I m in the main coil by about 80° i. This becomes a balanced 2 phase motor if the magnitude of I s and I m are equal and are displaced in time phase by 90° electrical degrees. The motor then operates as a single-phase induction motor and continues to accelerate until it reaches the normal speed.

The motor will start without any humming noise. However, after the auxiliary winding is disconnected, there will be some humming noise.

Since the auxiliary winding and capacitor are to be used intermittently, these can be designed for minimum cost. However, it is found that the best compromise among the factors of starting torque, starting current and costs results with a phase angle somewhat less than 90° between I m and I s. Read: Shaded Pole Motor. Although starting characteristics of a capacitor-start motor are better than those of a split-phase motor, both machines possess the same running characteristics because the main windings are identical.

The phase angle between the two currents is about 80° compared to about 25° in a split-phase motor. Consequently, for the same starting torque, the current in the starting winding is only about half that in a split-phase motor.

Therefore, the starting winding of a capacitor start motor heats up less quickly and is well suited to applications involving either frequent or prolonged starting periods. Capacitor start motors are used where high starting torque is required and where the starting period may belong e. The power rating of such motors lies between W and kW. Capacitors in induction run motors enable them to handle heavier start loads by strengthening the magnetic field of the start windings. These loads might include refrigerators, compressors, elevators, principle of operation of single phase capacitor start induction motor, and augers.

High starting torque designs also require high starting currents and high breakdown torque. Your email address will not be published. Remember Me. Not a member yet? Register now. Are you a member? If the 1 phase stator winding is excited and the rotor of the motor is rotated by an auxiliary means and the starting device is then removed, the motor continues to rotate in the direction in which it is started. The performance of the single phase induction motor is analysed by the two theories. One is known as the Double Revolving Field Theory, and the other is Cross Field Theory. Both the theories are similar and Capacitor Start Induction Motor.
